About The Industry

TREXA is an independent organisation representing the textile recycling (sorters) and exporters across the UK and internationally.

As an industry our members support the UK economy and environment in a number of ways:

  • Help make the UK economy ‘greener’ through the recycling of clothes and garments
  • Reduce waste going to the landfill
  • Help charities raise money
  • Create job opportunities

Our processes

Textile recycling processes can be split into a number of sections such as:

This is where textiles are manually sorted into different types based on garment, material and condition. Garments are sorted into bales and prepared for export.

Wearable textiles

The majority of wearable textiles will be sorted and prepared for export to countries around the world where they will be reconditioned and resold.

Non-Wearable textiles

These will typically be sold onto the ‘flocking’ industry who will re-purpose the fabrics for use in other textiles or uses.

Examples of countries we export to

We export worldwide including Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa.
